Steve Kupper of KGB-Racing takes 7th place at SCCA Solo Nationals in Lincoln, NE. Andrew Quigley took 21st in a very competitive F Street Prepared. For the second year in a row a rear wheel drive car takes the first
place in FSP. It was Iain Mannix's 1968 BMW 2002 Driven by David
Fauth. David took a commanding lead after day one on the east course.
Day two was a bit different. The slalom and transition intensive West
Course by Chris Cox seem to
benefit lighter and narrower front wheel drive cars in FSP. The best
time for that day was done by Geoff Zimmer ina VW Rabbit on his final
run. That run moved him from 8th place and possible out of the trophies
into a well deserved 6th place bumping Steve Kupper into 7th.
Steve had a very good weekend collecting his second SCCA Nationals trophy in 3 visits. Only being 2.5 seconds behind the leader after two days of competition was a great improvement over the previous visits where he was over 6 seconds back from the front runners. The only concern is that both days the second runs were the fastest and the car did not behave as expected on it's last run. Next time, more attention will be put to tire temperature maintenance. It seemed that this time the tires overheated and just did not grip on the last run.
