Broken Rockers A few broken rockers did not stop KGB-Racing BMW 2002 from attending SCCA Solo Nationals in Lincoln, NE.

Three weeks prior to the departure date at American Autocross Series event at Marina CA a disaster struck.  In the end of the day car lost power and start making a lot of noise from the engine bay.  Fear we had was that the bearing were gone, but to a pleasant surprise, after taking the valve cover off we discovered that the problem was in the head.  Exhaust rocker for #1 piston was broken.  The pad fell off and was sitting in two pieces next to the valve spring.  Lucky for us it did not fall into any oil passages.

ValvesA quick call to 2002Haus and the car was on it's way there to get the problem resolved. On Monday i get contacted by Rob who is there to give me some bad news. It was not just one, but 3 broken rockers.  Decision was made to get the head to the machine shop for inspection and recommendation. The solution: rebuild the head with new valves, rockers, springs, and guides.  Since we are already taking it all apart it was a good idea to do it all.

Lucky for me, Rob and the machine shop put everything aside and had the car ready by Friday in time for 2 days of racing with BMW CCA and SCCA. Practice is always good a couple weeks prior to SCCA Nationals.
