1970 BMW 2002

SCCA F-Street Prepared # 26/126

Electrical:

The battery has been relocated to the trunk and replaced with a 9lb Brail Lightweight battery that can supply 450 CCA.  The source of main power is a 6lb 50AMP racing alternator that has been moved down to the original position of an alternator on Tii models of the BMW 2002.  The Copper Bosch spark plugs are fired by a pair of Electromotive coils through custom Magnecor wires.

IMG_0636Engine and Drivetrain

The engine was built and tuned by Stuart from Schatz and Krum in Sacramento.  The induction is done by a set of Individual Throttle Bodies from Extrudabody.  Fuel and Spark management is done by Electromotive TEC-GT from Sias Tuning.  The fuel is supplied by an in-tank pump from an e30 318is and runs though hoses and fitting supplied by LPI Racing  The engine internals are built to stock spec.  The exhaust consist of Ireland Engineering Header going into 2.5" stainless pipe leading into a 17" long lightweight stainless steel Burns Muffler.   The engine spins a 9lb 5.5" clutch/flywheel assembly.  This is transferred to a 3.91 ratio 40% lock up limited slip differential.  All this drives 13x10 Real Racing wheels with 255/40R13 Hoosier A6 tires. Covering the wheels are a set of reproduction Group 2 Flares. The exhaust consist of Ireland Engineering Header going into 2.5" stainless pipe leading into a 17" long lightweight stainless steel Burns Muffler. The exhaust system ends right behind the driver seat. 2

Suspension:

The front suspension consist of shortened strut coilovers with Advanced Design custom inserts riding on 500lb springs.  The strut bar is from Ireland Engineering and clears the air box.  The sway bar is also form Ireland Engineering and is a 22mm hollow in front. There is no rear sway bar  The rear shocks are also from Advanced Design and are supporting 800lb springs with height adjustable perches. Ground Control camber/caster plates set the front camber to about -3.5 degrees.  The drop of the rear suspension causes the semi-trailing arm to set the wheels at about -3 degrees.

IMG_1247Brakes

Brakes are mostly stock.  Stock front rotors and rear drums.  Rear slave cylinder was replaced with a 22mm one.  The same size as the one that was on 1600.  This was done to move a bit more braking to the rear.  To control the brakes a brake bias valve was installed.  It took a couple races to play with the bias to get everything sorted.  The pads are Hawk HP Plus and the shoes are Ferodo.  The booster is from a Tii to give more clearance for the air horns.

Interior:

The driver is supported by a Corbeau Seat and is held in place by Willans 6 Point Harness that is attached to standard seat belt mounting holes on the sides and to a harness bar in the rear.  Momo steering wheel and UUC short shift kit put the controls in driver's hands.

All OEM BMW Parts are supplied by 2002 HAUS.
