I picked up the fuel cell from Clint (thanks
again Clint) on Friday. The cell was pretty rough looking (as Clint had
mentioned) but all the important parts were in good condition. I have
already ordered a pair of filler door seals, which were shot on the used
cell.
It was originally red, and then someone painted
it blue. Clint told me he installed the pickup and the pickup fitting,
which is the small black fitting.
Took the whole thing apart and sanded the crap out of the lid. The RCI sticker was a total bitch to get removed.
...A little rustoleum primer...
Also shot the intake manifold with some high temp paint.
...likewise with the fill ring, which was oxidized and ugly.
Whapbam!
In keeping with the Bimmervitch theme, I decided to blast the plastic front grill with some silver paint to make it look a bit more retro.
The inner bladder of the fuel cell. It has foam and I also ordered a VDO 0-90ohm sender for the tank from Summit. Hopefully it'll be an easy install. I figure a fuel gauge is a luxury that we probably don't *need,* but in an endurance race is probably a luxury I'd want.
The newly rejuvenated 32/36 sitting atop the intake manifold.
Fuel cell mocked up. I imagine its gonna be a bit of a hassle getting this to fit nicely in the spare tire well.
